english:
went to the halloween party last night at Fubar in Tenjin. it was rather a small club. i didnt get to dress up as i planned. i was bloody tired from work and violin lesson during the day. getting too old for this stuff. haha. none of of my buddies dressed up either but there were lots of people that did. one that especially caught my eye were two ganguro girls that dressed up as stitch. so cute. i was thinking of going bar hopping but i wanted to go home. so a friend drove me home around 130. need to get more often. haha.

Hmmm...
This time in English. Although I would prefer Japanese. It almost feels more natural though I still suck. I think I might start speaking Japanese spotaneously to friends back home. 〓
Anyway, had a slow long weekend and started the week with a slow day at work. very slow... Some interesting work is in planning though. I will be teaching English to real students in about a month. No experience? ok!〓 It doesnt sound too difficult though. Only once a week for 8 weeks. Not exactly sure what I will be teaching yet. Bad words? 〓 Well, for sure bribes gladly accepted.
Picture is of tonight's dinner. 美味しいそうね

Monday blues...
Here's a little teruterubosu I made several nights ago during a thunderstorm. Kids make these as a charm for good weather. I am suppose to hang it outside but I hung it inside, with floss. Silly me. I'm still sane I think, although I do feel I'm becoming a Jap. Today, I didnt do much at work. Today's comic strip of Dilbert depicts it quite nicely. Almost too good. I spent a good portion of time on youtube. Something interesting this week though is that me and the other girl (read intern) are showcasing Vancouver and such. Always so funny to see their expression when they find something amusing. Until next time bored on the bus...

Big week coming up
Here is a picture of what I have been doing lately. haha. I am going to work at the moment on a saturday so I get a week off for my solo motorcycle trip to Kyoto, if I make it there. It is not that far actually. The equivalent of driving to Hope from Vancouver I think. Although I wont be taking the highway because they are paid for by tax money so they are not free. Going long distances on them is not very sustainable on my salary. Bus is almost at my stop... Stupid bus... Probably post again on the road.

First Mobile Post
It is about 9:30 at night at the moment and I am typing this entry on the bus with my cellphone. I am able to type faster than my dad, which is kinda sad. haha. I am no where near to the speed of the locals, especially the girls. They tap out messages like mad. Most of them do it with long fingers too, then again, the phones here are designed for that sort of thing.
Quite a bit of things happened since my last entry. A lot I cannot say here though. One of the most important lessons I've learned here is to keep my fucking mouth shut on certain things. What things? Well... things.
Anyway, this saturday I am going to a club with my boss and her severely underaged fiance's daughter to celebrate Canada Day. It is going to be one interesting night. Then the next day, I am heading to the beach with some lovely ladies. Anyway have to look for food now.

A bit bored...
Just about lunch time now and I find myself a little bored. This morning was bloody hot and humid as well. "tsuyu" 梅雨 (jp characters) is a tropical rain season that lasts about 3 weeks and is about to start soon. Basically, it rains every damn day and it will be very hot and very humid. I am all for it! Bring it on! Ladies, bring out the summer wear! (grin) Some Most of the men are still wearing full suits and riding bicycles to work. What is wrong with these people? In the meanwhile, you see me walking down the street with just a nice colourful shirt and no tie. And pants of course. Japan still remains very conservative so it is VERY difficult to find any unique ties or shirts here. You have your shades of greys and mild blues and maybe pink. I am not complaining though. During the end of the season sales, I can find my sizes and they fit me well!
I digress. So I am bored at the moment. I finished some gruesome translation work last Friday. Not much of a translation as my Japanese is nowhere near being able to translate anything properly. The cool guy that assigned me the work ended up correcting and rewriting most of the stuff himself. I guess it was good practice and at least I got the most of the correct vocabulary right - from a dictionary. (sigh)
Ahh... I still have so many things to rant about and it kills me that I don't have anyone here to listen to me bitch about them. Perhaps that's what a girlfriend is for. (censored)

25 degrees in May...
At this moment, it is 18:36 and I am still in the office. Why? So I can use my computer to blog! Well, rather because I don't have internet at the dormitory. Can you believe it? A computer engineer without internet at home? Blasphemy eh? I have been plaguing my supervisor about it for about a month now... and still no positive reply yet. "I will check with..." who and who. Sigh...
Anyway, continuing from last entry, I was ticked off with just getting notice of having to move. At the time, I was prepared with money in hand to close a deal for a car from an ad online. I even test drove the car. The guy was selling a K class car 660cc for $800 roughly. Before coming to Japan, I had no idea how inconvenient not having a car would be. Even something so simple as shopping for food or just shopping was a big pain in the ass. Big heavy bags are not cool.
I wasn't expecting my supervisor to check with coop japan back home if getting a car would be okay. She did. Bloody trumped! So the car idea went down the hole. =(. For now anyway, if the right deal arises again I will buy keeping my mouth shut this time of course. So eventually, I had to move, which was another big pain in the ass. Physically moving is not that bad, but changing the registered address for this and that is a big hassle!
The company dorm has its ups and downs though. The good things are that it is bloody quiet and the managing lady makes great Japanese meals. Bad things... rant on that another time.
Regarding the title, this week has been so damn hot. Yesterday was 27C degrees and it is only May. I have been told that it gets as hot as 40C degrees mid-summer. Something to look forward to? Luckily the air conditioner in the office was fixed today. Yay.

At last...
I finally got myself to create a blog for my time here in this foreign place. After four long months working and living here, the feelings of loneliness and nostalgia have started to settle in. It could be just that this has been a really bad week. At this moment, I am working the last of two work days in the Golden Week holiday. It is more or less what we call spring break, but for everyone. Why the hell there are two working days during the Golden Week holiday? I have no idea. My guess is that it is some Japanese thing. Guess what? Almost everyone goes to work on those two days.
They have no concept of flexible hours. Everyone starts work at 9am and leaves work probably at 9pm, everyday. Technically, the day ends at 5:30 so being the "intern" who doesn't know any better, I leave anytime I feel like after that. Trains are packed to the point of discomfort sometimes especially when it rains because the the bike riders take a day off.
I have been taking the bus since I moved from my original apartment. It aggravates me everytime I tell the story why I moved. It began when I decided to buy a car about two months ago. I knew this was strictly against coop japan policy but I miss having a vehicle at my disposable anytime of the day. I was utterly digusted at the thought of being enslaved to bus and train schedules. In Japan, you need to register a parking pace beforehand to be able to purchase a car. The place I was living in has parking space and is owned by the company so I had no choice but to ask for the parking registration. Bad move. First I was given false hope when my supervisor told me that I can legally get a car but... there maybe a problem.
..
Before I get to the problem I want to rant about this coop japan policy about not being allowed to drive. Who is to say that coop japan students are not allowed to drive? I don't think it is in their jurisdiction to say so. Regular UBC students can drive. Why can't I? I was looking through the policies and crap from coop japan to find nothing that stated I can't drive. Driving to and from work I can understand because the employer could be liable.
Anyway, she tells me I "might" have to move and she doesn't know if there will be a parking space available. At this point I was thinking WTF, when were you going to tell me I had to move. This was about a week before the moving date.
